03/02/11 - NNHS Newsletter - Kiss Me Goodbye

“They who go
Feel not the pain of parting;
it is they
Who stay behind that suffer.”

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
(27 Feb 1807 - 24 Mar 1882)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's Newsletter theme is being revisited from exactly four years ago today:

BONUS - - Kiss Me Goodbye - Petula Clark, 1968

Kiss Me Goodbye is a Les Reed/ Barry Mason composition recorded in 1968 by Petula Clark.

... Released in February 1968 , "Kiss Me Goodbye" rose swiftly up the Billboard Hot 100 to enter the Top 20 at #16 on the chart dated 23 March 1968 representing a considerable a comeback for Clark whose last two US singles had been Top 20 shortfalls. However despite being showcased on Clark's 2 April 1968 Petula NBC-TV special, "Kiss Me Goodbye" would rise no higher than #15 - although the track was ranked as high as #12 in Cash Box and #10 in Record World) - and would mark Clark's final appearance in the Top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100 where the follow-up "Don't Give Up" would peak at #37. ("Don't Give Up" would peak at respectively #27 and #23 in Cash Box and Record World: in all three trades it would be Clark's last Top 40 hit.)...

From My Sister, Eleanor Buckley Nowitzky ('59) of NC - 02/28/11 - "Thank you for being my friend":

Especially for you, my friend!       Enjoy!!!

I like you because of who you are to me... a true friend...

Tonight at midnight your true love will realize they like you.

Something good will happen to you between 1:00-4:00 PM tomorrow.

It could be anywhere -- at home, Yahoo, outside of work, anywhere.

Get ready for the biggest shock of your life.

Please send to 5 people in 5 minutes.

'A good friend will come bail you out of jail....

But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying WE screwed up, but we had fun!'

Proud to Be Your Friend!

Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence, and don't skip ahead.

I've learned..
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned....
That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for

I've learned......
That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned...that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned...
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned...
That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

I've learned...
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned.....
That the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.

To all of you.... Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence...

It's National Friendship Week.....

Thank you for being my friend, too, Eleanor! We just sent this to over 650 people. Boy Howdy, are we going to be happy tomorrow afternoon!

From Glenn Dye ('60) of TX - 03/01/11 - "AIR FORCE TEST - WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY!":

This will drive you nuts!! Have fun!
The object of the game is to move the red block around without getting hit by the blue blocks or touching the black walls.
If you can go longer than 18 seconds on any one test, you are phenomenal. It's been said that the US Air Force uses this for fighter pilots.

They are expected to go for at least 2 minutes.

Give it a try but be is addictive (or forward it to someone you want to frustrate)!!

Thanks, Glenn! There are several very good reasons why I don't drive a car, much less pilot fighter planes for the Air Force!

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 03/01/11 - "More Walmartians":

It's no wonder they feel the need to cut their prices!!!!!

More Walmartians

Thanks, Joyce! There are hundreds of these images, and I think they are updated hourly, but I never fail to hurt myself laughing at them!

From Glenn Dye ('60) of TX - 03/01/11 - "Trouble At The Country House":

Trouble At The Country House

At dawn the telephone rings. "Hello, Senor Humphrey? This is Ernesto, the caretaker at your country house."

"Ah yes, Ernesto. What can I do for you? Is there a problem?"

"Um, I am just calling to advise you, sir, that your parrot died."

"My parrot? Dead? The one that won the international competition?"

"Si, that's the one."

"!@#$! That's a pity! I spent a small fortune on that bird. What did he die from?"

"From eating rotten meat."

"Rotten meat? Who the %^&* fed him rotten meat?"

"Nobody, senor. He ate the meat of one of the dead horses."

"Dead horse? What dead horse?"

"The thoroughbred, Mr. Lucky. He died from all that work pulling the water cart."

"Are you insane? What water cart?"

"The one we used to put out the fire."

"Good !@#$! What fire are you talking about, man?"

"The one at your house! A candle fell and the curtains caught on fire."

"What the.....!!! But there's electricity at the house!!!! What was the candle for?"

"For the funeral."

"WHAT !@#$%^& FUNERAL?!"

"Your mother's. She showed up one night out of the blue and I thought she was a thief, so I hit her with your new Tiger Woods Nike Driver."

"Ernesto, if you broke that driver, you're fired!"

     Thanks again, Glenn!

From - 03/01/11:

“Hello, Operator. You gave me the wrong number.”

The young man was quite peeved about it. I’m calling HOpe5567.

“There is no such exchange as Rope,” said the operator.

“Hope,” replied the man angrily. “H like in Harry, O for Otto, P for Peter and E for Edward.”

“Gee,” said the operator, “that phone booth must be awfully crowded.

But what number do you want?”

Kiss Me Goodbye

Written by Les Reed (b. 24 July 1935) and Barry Mason

Recorded by Petula Clark (b. 15 Nov 1932), 1968

We choose it, win or lose it
Love is never quite the same
I love you, now I've lost you
Don't feel bad, you're not to blame

So kiss me goodbye and I'll try not to cry
All the tears in the world won't change your mind
There's someone new and she's waiting for you
Soon your heart will be leaving me behind
Linger awhile, then I'll go with a smile
Like a friend who just happened to call
For the last time pretend your are mine
My darling, kiss me goodbye

I know now I must go now
Though my heart wants me to stay
That girl is your tomorrow
I belong to yesterday

So kiss me goodbye and I'll try not to cry
All the tears in the world won't change your mind
There's someone new and she's waiting for you
Soon your heart will be leaving me behind
Linger awhile, then I'll go with a smile
Like a friend who just happened to call
For the last time pretend your are mine
My darling, kiss me goodbye
My darling kiss me goodbye
