Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

    We have another sad Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.  Doris Friedman Bell Robbins, mother of    Judy Bell Nachman ('64) of VA and    Sherry Bell Silnutzer ('67) of NJ, and mother-in-law of     Stuart Nachman ('63) of VA, passed away in Virginia Beach on Tuesday, February 22, 2010 at the age of 83.  May her memory be for a blessing always.

 Doris Friedman Bell Robbins

VIRGINIA BEACH - Doris Friedman Robbins, 83, passed away on Feb. 22, 2011. The daughter of the late Molly and Samuel Freidman, Doris was born in Newport News, resided most of her life there and made Virginia Beach her home the last ten years.

She was predeceased by her husbands, William Bell and Max Robbins.

She was the cherished mother of Judy Bell Nachman and her husband, Stuart of Virginia Beach and Sherry Bell Silnutzer and her husband, David of Cherry Hill, N.J. She was the adoring grandmother of Lauri, Michael and Brad. She is also survived by her sister, Marian Bierman and three generations of nieces and nephews. Doris enjoyed her later years with her special friends, Lee Liverman and Emma Daniels. The family gives special thanks to Jeanine Gutierrez and Caring Hands for their love and companionship. All who knew Doris were beneficiaries of her generosity of spirit, energy and infectious personality.

As owner of a department store, Doris delighted her customers with her humor, charm and warmth. Doris was an exceptional and gifted beauty whose talent earned her standing ovations in her many roles on stage at the Little Theatre of the Virginia Peninsula. Doris had an iconic sense of style and was called upon as a commentator and model at fashion shows. She was a past member of Adath Jeshrun Synagogue, Hadassah and served on the Chevra Kadisha.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula, 1817 Kecoughtan Rd., Hampton, Va. The family will receive friends at the home of Judy and Stuart Nachman until 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
