“Savor and taste each moment in life - for it soon shall be a memory.”

- Shana Wiersum

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precious_Memories:

Precious Memories is a traditional gospel hymn credited to J.B.F. Wright in 1925. J. B. F. Wright was born in Tennessee, February 21, 1877. It has been performed by a wide variety of famous recording artists including Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Daniel O'Donnell, The Edwin Hawkins Singers, and Bob Dylan. It was also the last song on the soundtrack of the 1979 film Hardcore, then performed by Susan Raye at the film's opening and closing credits.

Aretha Franklin recorded the song for her album "Amazing Grace" (1972) and Ronnie Milsap for his album "Then Sings My Soul" (2009).

HEALTH UPDATE:

     From Me ('65) of NC - 02/21/16:

My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC, was transported from the doctor's office to the hospital by ambulance at 6:30 PM on Thursday to receive emergency IV antibiotics to treat critical stasis dermatitis and celluitis of lower extremities to save his knees from the infection. His condition is complicated by Stage 3 Chronic Renal Failure, mild congestive heart failure, enlarged heart, and a few other delights. He is responding well (if not as quickly as we'd like) to medications. The swelling is going down, and he is experiencing far less pain. Your continued prayers for his recovery will be greatly appreciated.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”

- Ernest Hemingway

   Thank you, Dennis!

        From George Helliesen ('61) of VA - 02/16/16 - "SUCCESS & MONEY..........":

Growing up is a weird notion to wrap your mind around. As you go through life, your perspectives on almost everything will change. How you define success will change as well. Things that you thought were important at the age of 35 will be useless when you're 65. You may not realize it now, but everything will shift.

At age 4 success is not peeing in your pants.

At age 12 success is having friends.

At age 16 success is having a drivers license.

At age 20 success is having sex.

At age 35 success is having money.

At age 50 success is having money.

At age 60 success is having sex.

At age 70 success is having a drivers license.

At age 75 success is having friends.

At age 80 success is not peeing in your pants.

It all comes full circle, whether you like it or not.

Share this hilarious truth about life with others.

May you always have Love to Share, Health to Spare, and Friends who Care.....

     Thanks, George!

From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 02/21/16:

Note to all bears: I taste like liver & Brussel sprouts, which I understand, bears dislike, so pass me by. Thank you.

      Thanks, David!

From My Friend, Crystal, of TX - 02/16/16:

When I was 14 my Sunday School teacher said every week this is how to be happy. Being happy is a side effect of doing these things!

   SO TRUE! Thank you, Crystal!

Precious Memories

- Music and Lyrics by J. B. F. Wright (21 Feb 1877 - ???), 1925

Precious memories, unseen angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger, ever near me
And the sacred scenes unfold.

Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

Precious father, loving mother
Fly across the lonely years
And old home scenes of my childhood
In fond memory appear.

In the stillness of the midnight
Echoes from the past I hear
Old-time singing, gladness bringing
From that lovely land somewhere.

I remember mother praying
Father, too, on bended knee
Sun is sinking, shadows falling
But their prayers still follow me.

As I travel on life's pathway
Know not what the years may hold
As I ponder, hope grows fonder
Precious memories flood my soul.
