From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precious_Memories:
Precious Memories is a traditional
gospel
hymn
credited to J.B.F. Wright in 1925. J. B. F. Wright was born in
Tennessee, February 21, 1877. It has been performed by a wide variety of
famous recording artists including
Johnny Cash,
Emmylou Harris,
Daniel O'Donnell, The
Edwin Hawkins Singers, and
Bob
Dylan. It was also the last song on the soundtrack of the
1979 film
Hardcore, then performed by
Susan Raye at the film's opening and closing credits. Aretha Franklin recorded the song for her album "Amazing Grace" (1972) and Ronnie Milsap for his album "Then Sings My Soul" (2009). |
SAD NEWS:
From Catherine Slusser Hudson ('64) of VA - 02/20/11, 10:43 PM - "Passing of
Mary L. Hudson":
Hi Carol : I have some sad
news.
It is with a heavy heart that I
advise all my family and friends of the death of Mary L. Hudson.
On 2-19-2011, she passed
from this life to be with her beloved husband, David W. Hudson,
and son She leaves behind to cherish
her memory a son, Mark Hudson and his wife Debbie, and
granddaughter April. She also leaves her other 5
grandchildren and their families: granddaughter Monica
Stefanowicz and her husband Mike; great-grandsons Kyle
and David; grandson Scott Hudson; grandson Todd
Hudson and his wife Dradi; and great-granddaughter
Lauren Marie and great-grandson Andrew; granddaughter
Amy Rieger and her husband Lance; great-grandsons Alex
and Hunter; and great-granddaughter Hailey; and
grandson Shawn Rosenbaum and his wife Amanda; and
great-granddaughter Athena.
It was my pleasure to have
loved and been her daughter-in-law for 46 years; may she now Rest In
Peace. She will always be remembered and loved by us all and her
memories will last us a lifetime.
Mary was a graduate of
NNHS and so was her husband, David W.
Hudson. Mary was 90 years old at the time of her death. She
graduated from Riverside School of Nursing at the original Riverside
Hospital down next to the Shipyard. She also worked for Dr. A.B.H.
Mirmelstein and Dr. Irving Berlin and she worked at
Tidewater Regional Police Academy when it was in Hampton. After
retirement she attended and graduated from the Newport News Senior
Citizen Police Academy.
Oh, Cathy, I'm so very sorry to hear this! I tried
to find her high school portrait in one of my older yearbooks, but then
I realized I did not know her maiden name. I'll prepare a Memorial
Edition Newsletter for her when her obituary appears in the Daily Press.
Meanwhile, our deepest condolences are extended to you and your family
in your time of loss.

From Dee Hodges Bartram ('66) of VA - 02/20/11:
Carol,
On the 1966 Alumni contact page would you
please put my phone number and e-mail address? I am the one keeping up with
everyone’s home address and e-mail address now, not
Anita Morgan Becker or
John Howard.
Thanks much!!
Dee Hodges Bartram
Okay, Dee, I think what we have here
is a case of our website having grown too big
for me to know what's happening.....
I checked the 1966 Contact page, and it lists your current email addy:
http://nnhs65.com/contact-ALL.html
http://nnhs65.com/contact-1966.html
Then I checked the Alumni Page for the Class of 1966, and added your addy there:
http://nnhs65.com/alumni-list.html
http://nnhs65.com/alumni-1966-n-after.html
Then I checked the main Reunion Page where I have all the Reunion Contact people listed for each class. You and your correct addy were already listed there:
http://nnhs65.com/reunion-page.html
Nowhere do I show Anita and John as being in charge of anything; indeed, I did not realize that they ever were.
I do not normally post (or keep) phone numbers, and I cannot seem to find yours to do so now.
One last thought occurred to me. These following links I have posted merely as a convenience; I have no control over their content:

- AHA!!!
Ja, they won't take MY word for it!
I have no authority
whatsoever. You'll need to call or email them personally and tell them that you
da man - or, you know, the woman!

Thanks,
Dee - sorry I couldn't have been more helpful!

- "RE:

3 Questions for a Redneck
Engineer":
Wayne sent me the image of the pre-fab home straddling the stream. I replied with two suggestions: Leave it where it lies. Buy the property from the State. Run water, sewer, electricity. Install jack-up pilings to support the center weight. Market it as waterfront property with limited access. -and- Depending on the strength of the flow of the stream, you could install a waterwheel and make it a grist mill or an electric power generator. Better yet, make it an electrically self-sufficient home with the water powered generator.

Sherlock Holmes jokes, eh? Here’s mine: Dr. Watson: “Amazing, Holmes! You solved the case merely by analyzing the contents of his late Lordship’s stomach! Holmes: “Alimentary, my dear Watson.”

Tom Dikon & Ron Fetner | ||
www.ronfetner.com/Fetner_Dikon.htm |
The duo of Ron Fetner of Seaford and Tom Dikon of Hampton were named winners of the Hampton Roads round of the International Blues Challenge, sponsored by the local Natchel' Blues Network ... |
|
"This means we're headed in the right direction," Fetner, a guitar-playing singer-songwriter, said. His partner, who impressed the judges and crowd with his deft harmonica solos, said he was pleased. "I'm flattered, and humbled, honestly," Dikon said. "The competition was pretty stiff. I'm excited to go to Memphis [for Final Round], eat some barbecue and play the blues." The local round was held Sunday, Oct. 17, [2010] at the Commodore Theatre in Portsmouth. Fetner and Dikon were winners in the solo/duo category... Fetner and Dikon's prize-winning performance included a version of "Shake, Rattle & Roll," and Fetner's own "Let Me Play You The Blues." DIRECTIONS
WOWZERS!
Thanks, Adrian!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of IL -
02/20/11 - "The Perfect Husband":
The Perfect Husband
Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cellular phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen. MAN: "Hello" WOMAN: "Hi Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?" MAN: "Yes." WOMAN: "I'm at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $2,000. Is it OK if I buy it?" MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much." WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked." MAN: "How much?" WOMAN: "$90,000." MAN: "OK, but for that price I want it with all the options." WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing. I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $980,000 for it." MAN: "Well, then go ahead and make an offer of $900,000. They'll probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it's what you really want." WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!" MAN: "Bye! I love you, too." The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open. He turns and asks, "Anyone know whose phone this is?" ![]() ![]() |
FINALLY:
From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 02/20/11:
Her husband had been
slipping in and out of a coma for several months yet she stayed by his
bedside every single day. When he came to, he motioned for her to come
nearer.
As she sat by him, he said, "You know what? You have been with me all through the bad times. When I got fired, you were there to support me. When my business fell, you were there. When I got shot, you were by my side. When we lost the house, you gave me support. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. Well, now that I think about it, I think you bring me bad luck!" |

Precious Memories
- Music and Lyrics by J. B. F.
Wright (21 Feb 1877 -
???), 1925
Precious memories, unseen
angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger, ever near me
And the sacred scenes unfold.
Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.
Precious father, loving mother
Fly across the lonely years
And old home scenes of my childhood
In fond memory appear.
In the stillness of the midnight
Echoes from the past I hear
Old-time singing, gladness bringing
From that lovely land somewhere.
I remember mother praying
Father, too, on bended knee
Sun is sinking, shadows falling
But their prayers still follow me.
As I travel on life's pathway
Know not what the years may hold
As I ponder, hope grows fonder
Precious memories flood my soul.
