NEWPORT NEWS - Miss Ruby Lee
Speigle passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Riverside Hospital after
a brief illness. Miss Speigle was born in Etheridge, Tenn., on Nov. 29, 1917. She moved to Newport News and graduated from NNHS in 1935. She then moved to Washington, D.C., and was employed at Woodward and Lothrop Dept. Store, where she retired and shortly after moved back to the peninsula. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James R. Speigle; five sisters, Sue Hinkle, Cleo Brooks, Estelle Slotboom, Eunice Carr and Cenith Mae Speigle; and two brothers, Walter L. 'Red' Speigle and James R. Speigle Jr. Miss Speigle leaves behind two nieces, Mrs. Nancy C. Tison of Newport News and Mrs. Barbara S. McNeal of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and two nephews, James L. Carr of Lanexa, Va., and John R. Carr Jr. of Hampton. She also leaves many other great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins to cherish her memories. She was a member of Northside Christian Church and the Praymates class. For many years she was an avid fan of the PGA tour and attended the Kingsmill Tournament with her late brother, Walter 'Red' Speigle, who was a PGA instructor on the peninsula for almost 70 years. She was so proud of his accomplishments. Her church and family were the focal point of her life, and she is now with the redeemed, where she will worship her Lord forevermore. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Larry Jones at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at Northampton Convalescent Center for her care during the last several years. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that expressions of sympathy be made to the building fund of Northside Christian Church, 1300 George Washington Memorial Hwy., Yorktown, VA 23693. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Daily Press on 2/18/2008. Guest Book |

Shall We Gather at the
River
Words and music by Rev.
Robert Lowry (1826-1899)
Shall we gather
at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Chorus
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.
Chorus
Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
Chorus
Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
Chorus
