Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   We have more sad news this Sunday afternoon.   Nancy Gary Williams passed away in Poquoson on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at the age of 91.  From the Daily Press - 02/14/16:

             Nancy Gary Williams

POQUOSON - Nancy Gary Williams, 91, died peacefully Feb. 11, 2016.

Nancy was the oldest of 4 girls born to Fred Gary and Nancy Robins. Raised in Washington D.C., Nancy moved to Newport News after high school.

Nancy and Grayson Williams and were married in 1943, before he left to serve in the USMC. After his discharge, they moved to SC, where he went to college and began his teaching/coaching career while Nancy cared for their growing family.

After returning to York County and at 40 years old, Nancy returned to work with the C&O Railroad as a Stenographer in the Train Masters office, and ended her career as Secretary to the Superintendent. She enjoyed working and retired after 25 years.

Nancy was smart and strong, an original woman's libber, who met life's responsibilities and challenges with resolve and humor, no complaints and lots of chocolate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, F. Grayson Williams; and sisters, Anne Lee Piner and Louisa Valencourt.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Franklin Grayson Williams Jr., Kathryn W. Jones (Bill), Gary Charles Williams (Karen), Nancy Elizabeth Pratt (Paul) six grandchildren, Alease, Russell, Chris, Suzanne, Paul and Robin; ten great-grandchildren, Sam, Sawyer Connor, Logan, James, Jenna, Mason, Gracelyn, Rylee and Joel; and her sister, Susan Gary.

Special thanks and gratitude to the staff at Golden Living - Bayside in Poquoson for their excellent care and ability to see and appreciate the spunky nature of our mother.

Lead, Kindly Light

Lyrics by John Henry Newman, 1833
Music by John B. Dykes, 1865

Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom,
Lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home;
Lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.

I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
Shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now
Lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

So long Thy power hath blessed me, sure it will,
Will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till
The night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile,
Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!

Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith,
Home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
