From Charles Schneider ('60) of TX - 02/05/14 - "USS Forrestal
leaves Philadelphia for Texas scrapyard":
Carol Another of Newport News Shipbuilding's historic ships goes to the scrapyard. See the links below: Charles Schneider (60) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Forrestal_(CV-59): In October 2013, it was announced the Forrestal had been sold for a penny and would be scrapped in Brownsville, Texas.[13][19] She left the Philadelphia Naval Yard via a team of tugboats at 5:00AM on 4 February 2014.[20] |
Oh, Charles, NO! What
a tragedy! So many of
us were there when she was christened - plus some of us before then as
well as a few afterward! How very sad to contemplate this heartbreaking
ending.

Thank you, though, for
letting us know!
