From Sandra Ray ('61) of VA - 02/05/13 - "Looking for someone.....":
Good Morning, Carol, I might not comment on your site, but I surely check it out everyday. You are amazing doing all the work you do to keep this site up. We all appreciate it and love you for it. I had a close friend ask me if I could find out if someone on the site might know a former Newport News Classmate. Don't think either of them graduated, not sure. Peggey "Edwards" Lewis......late 50's James Edwards....Brother....not sure of year at all Any help would be greatly appreciated, but since I don't have enough information and you aren't able to, that isn't a problem. Just thought I would check with you first. Thanking you in advance, Sandra Ray '61
Hi, Sandra - good
to hear from you!
There was a
I checked the junior and senior sections of all the yearbooks between 1954 and 1960. The problem in finding Peggy is that individual portraits of sophomores and younger did not begin until the 1960 Anchor. Prior to this, the students were shown in group photos with their homeroom - and only their last names and the initials of their first name given (and they were sometime incorrect). Indexing would have been a tremendous help here, but it did not begin until the 1961 Anchor, and the 1964 and 1967 Anchors did not include one. Beyond that, it's time to turn it over to our schoolmates. "Anyone? Anyone?" |
From Sydney Dearing ('56) of TN - 02/05/13, 1:05 PM - "
Sarah Groshong":
Carol,
I was extremely saddened to hear that
Sarah Groshong had passed away. She was my next door neighbor back
in the fifties. We lived on Hickory Avenue, directly across the
street from Woodrow Wilson School.
She was five years younger than I and was (in the class ahead) of my
sister

Tommy Ware
(June 1943) is
my first cousin once removed. His mother (Ida Evans Ware) and my
grandmother (Maggie Evans Linkous) were sisters.
Oh, David, I'm so
sorry! You have my condolences on the loss of your cousin.
