We have still another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter today.
Billy
Mitchell passed away in Ware Neck on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the age of 84.

WARE NECK - William "Billy"
Mitchell, 84, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. Born May 10, 1923, Mitchell was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. His parents were Edna and Joseph Mitchell of Newport News. A graduate of Newport News High School, Mitchell served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. In 1953, he founded Southeastern Tile and Rug Co., a landmark business on Mercury Boulevard in Hampton. After a highly successful 50-year career, he retired in 2003. Mitchell was a Mason and Shriner; he also was a longtime member of the Hampton Lion's Club. In 1969, he moved from Hampton to Ware Neck. He was member of Ware Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. He was dedicated to his family and friends, and he was well-known for his generosity, love of music and a lively sense of humor. |

His survivors include his wife,
Channing Warren Mitchell; four daughters, Mary Mitchell Santos of Dallas,
Constance Diane La Prade of Seaford, Del., Shannon Heather Mitchell of
Mathews and Ashbyrne Rebecca Mitchell of Ware Neck; a son, William Mitchell
III of Ware Neck; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Toy N. Fowler of
Hampton. |

| Billy was one of the finest people I have known. I worked with him many years when I was with Rancorn, Wildman, Krause and he was one of my favorite people. I offer my deepest sympathies. |
