From Charlie Hilling ('56) of FL - 02/04/10 - "Hello from Florida":

Hi Carol,
I received a letter from     Freddie McDowell ('56 - of ID) around the end of January.  He said that he is doing fine and should be okay in the future.  The doctor told him to lose some weight and start walking.  He also said he received a package from     Bobby Turpin ('58 - of VA) that included the plaque from the State Championship Team of 55-56.  Said he was simply amazed upon receiving the plaque.
Please make sure Bobby Turpin gets a copy of this note.  Also, I need his e-mail address if possible.
All the best to all Typhoons.
Charlie Hilling, Class of 1956

      Thanks so much, Charlie!

(I forwarded this note to Bobby and they're all connected now.)

From Bobby Turpin ('58) of VA - 02/04/10 - "RE:     Freddie McDowell ('56) of ID":

This is great.  Charlie, thanks, for sharing this with us.  I just can't imagine Freddie being told to lose weight because he was always in such great shape growing up.  I guess that just comes from age.  Take care and you have made my day.

Carol, thank you for sharing this with me also.

Love to all,
Bobby Turpin

Thank you, Bobby! I think this made a great day for many of us!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 02/04/10 - "The Wave":
Just like the wave, life too is a set changing circumstances. Change is inevitable, how we adapt to it, is what really matters. Just like the beach, where these waves come in to crash and waste itself, its energy, the sand retains its pristine beauty, we too must remain unaffected by what is happening around us, and accept the change. Flow with the tide, as the saying goes, for in trying to stem the flow of change, we will get badgered and beaten. Resist, and you lose your peace of mind and happiness!

   Thank you, Shari!

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 02/04/10 - "What Am I":

Your best friend or greatest enemy, I am your greatest companion. I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden. I will push you onwards or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command.

Half the things you do, you might as well turn over to me and I'll do them quickly and correctly. I'm easily managed, but you must be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and, after a few lessons, I'll do it automatically. I'm the servant of all great men and, alas, of all failures as well.

Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I work with the precision of a scientist and the passion of a patriot. You many run me for profit or run me for ruin; it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be firm with me and I will put the world at your feet. But be easy with me and I'll destroy you.

Who am I?

A Habit.

   Thanks again, Shari!

  From Mike White ('67) of VA - 02/03/10 - "Seniors (#2 in a Series of 19)":

From ArcaMax Jokes - 02/04/10:

An insurance agent was teaching his wife to drive when the brakes suddenly failed on a steep, downhill grade.

"I can't stop!" she shrilled. "What should I do?"

"Brace yourself," advised her husband, "and try to hit something cheap."

Ain't No Sunshine

Written and recorded by Bill Withers, 1971
 (b. 04 July 1938)

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
It's not warm when she's away
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And she always gone too long anytime she goes away

Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

And I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know

Hey I'll leave the young thing alone
But ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
Only darkness everyday

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
Anytime she goes away
