Dear Carol: It was sure nice to read where    Charlie Hilling ('56 - of FL) had contacted the web-site concerning Freddie McDowell. Charlie and his family are one of the great families of North-End. To answer the question, I have not heard anything from Freddie McDowell, concerning his receiving the 1955-56 Va. State Championship Trophy, as I was hoping someone in the "Typhoon Nation" might have heard from him. We must with great respect "the right of his privacy". I am hoping his health concerns noted are improving and he will be restored as before. I will certainly pass on any contact from Freddie, I receive.   From Chuck Jones ('66) of Northern VA - 01/30/10 - " Musician vs. United Airlines (customer revenge for unresponsive carriers":

Interesting lesson for business in the internet age: A musician named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines. United apparently damaged his treasured Taylor guitar ($3500) during a flight. Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar. During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for YouTube exposing their lack of cooperation. The Manager responded: "Good luck with that one, pal". So he posted a retaliatory video on YouTube. The video has since received over 6.5 million hits. United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was: "Good luck with that one, pal". Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has lead to a sharp increase in orders. Las Vegas Churches accept gambling chips THIS MAY COME AS A SURPRISE TO THOSE OF YOU NOT LIVING IN LAS VEGAS, BUT THERE ARE MORE CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAN CASINOS. NOT SURPRISINGLY, SOME WORSHIPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICES WILL GIVE CASINO CHIPS RATHER THAN CASH WHEN THE BASKET IS PASSED. SINCE THEY GET CHIPS FROM MANY DIFFERENT CASINOS, THE CHURCHES HAVE DEVISED A METHOD TO COLLECT THE OFFERINGS. THE CHURCHES SEND ALL THEIR COLLECTED CHIPS TO A NEARBY FRANCISCAN MONASTERY FOR SORTING AND THEN THE CHIPS ARE TAKEN TO THE CASINOS OF ORIGIN AND CASHED IN. THIS IS DONE BY THE CHIP MONKS.   YOU DIDN'T EVEN SEE IT COMING, DID YOU?

Webdoll,  Thanks for forwarding        Dave Sprigg’s (’64) of VA message and email.  My ticket on Mr. Peabody’s WABACK machine came Friday with the terrific five CD set of “our music." There was Bob Calvert, Roger Clark, air checks and the sound we know so well from WGH-1310. Most readers here apparently knew it was compiled by Capt. Spriggs for the 40th reunion of the class of ’64. He offered it to anyone who would ask for it and say at least a version of “Please.” Mine came Friday, talk about quick turnaround. He deserves full honors, including Bo ‘sun’s Pipe and Side Boys, for this “wonderment.”   Apparently in the “Fog of War,” I failed to realize you offer the opportunity to receive the CDs plus other great “stuff” at http://nnhs65.00freehost.com/CD-MIX.html.   Thanks to your treasure chest of jewels, including Dave,     Bill Black (’66) of GA and     Joe Madagan (’57) of FL for their help. To all who love making scalloped potatoes from scratch and potato salad but hate peeling the boiled potatoes, here is the solution for easy peeling. This will BLOW your mind. Well, we do learn something new every day.

I wish I had known about this thirty years ago. Peeling the cooked potato was the least desirable part in making a potato salad. Enjoy.
