Eighteen Yellow Roses

“Life is a mosaic of pleasure and pain - grief is an interval between two moments
of joy. Peace is the interlude between two wars. You have no rose without a thorn;
the diligent picker will avoid the pricks and gather the flower.

- Sri Sathya Sai Baba
(b. 23 Nov 1926)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

It's a little known fact that I'm almost as big a Marty Robbins fan as I am of Frank Sinatra. Shhhh. It'll be our secret. Yes, I know this is really a Bobby Darin song. Don't confuse my "mind" with facts.

BONUS - Eighteen Yellow Roses - Marty Robbins

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Darin:

... In 1962, Darin began to write and sing country music, with hit songs including "Things" (US #3/UK #2) (1962), "You're the Reason I'm Living" (US #3), and "18 Yellow Roses" (US #10). The latter two were recorded by Capitol Records, which he joined in 1962, before returning to Atlantic four years later. In 1966, he had his final UK hit single, with a version of Tim Hardin's "If I Were A Carpenter", which peaked at # 9. He performed the opening and closing songs on the soundtrack of the 1965 Walt Disney film That Darn Cat!. "Things" was sung by Dean Martin in the 1967 TV special Movin' With Nancy, starring Nancy Sinatra.[12]...

Eighteen Yellow Roses

Written and recorded by Bobby Darin, 1963
(14 May 1936 - 20 Dec 1973)

Recorded by Marty Robbins, 19__
(26 Sept 1925 – 08 Dec 1982)

Eighteen yellow roses came today....
Eighteen yellow roses in a pretty bouquet
When the boy came to the door
I didn't know what to say....

But eighteen yellow roses came today.

I opened up the card to see what it said...
I couldn't believe my eyes
When I had read....
Though you belong to another, I love you anyway.

Yes. eighteen yellow roses came today

I never doubted your love for a minute
I always thought that you would be true
But now this box and the flowers in it
I guess there's nothin' left for me to do.....

But ask to meet the boy that's done this thing
And find out if he's got plans to buy you a ring
'Cause eighteen yellow roses will wilt and die one day....

But a father's love will never fade away...

Will never fade away..............
