Newport News High School Class of 1962

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   Incredibly, there is still more sad news this Friday.  Carol Kirk Ledford, Class of 1962, passed away in Newport News on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the age of 71.

  From Brenda Amos Williams ('62) of VA - 01/29/16:

Hi Typhoon classmates, on Saturday we lost another of our classmates. Carol Kirk Ledford, funeral Saturday 11:00 at Weymouth Funeral Home.

She made our last reunion and did get our memory booklet in November. That I am really happy about. She's been a friend since we were 15 years old when she was a hair dresser with her mom in downtown Newport News.

I myself will miss her wit and enjoying her funny stories. Rest in peace, Carol. God bless you and your family.

   Brenda, I am very sorry to learn this. I'm so glad you posted it; I had not recognized her name. You have my deepest sympathies on the passing of your friend.

It saddens my heart today that my friend Carol is no longer with us. She was a dear sweet lady and I will miss her company. I looked forward to seeing her and Bella every other week. it breaks my heart I won't be able to visit with her anymore. I pray God took her on swift winds to carry her home where is no longer in pain. I am sorry for your loss.

Kim, I remember stopping by the shop where it was always a beehive of activity! All the ladies yakking and telling their stories. Carol commanded a presence with her sharp tongue and you were always laughing and very sweet. So sorry for the loss of your mother. I hope the good memories live on and give you happiness! Much love, dear friend, Elizabeth Ferguson

Be Thou My Vision

Irish Hymn, c. 8th century

Translated by Mary Elizabeth Byrne (02 July 1880 - 19 Jan 1931), 1905

Versified by Eleanor Henrietta Hull (15 Jan 1860 - 13 Jan 1935), 1912

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
