Newport News High School Class of 1965

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   Here is the sad news we reported earlier
Sandy Hobbs Harris, Class of 1965, sister of Billy Hobbs ('70) of VA and of the late Linda Hobbs Lyzet ('67), passed away in Dothan, Alabama on Friday, January 05, 2018 at the age of 70.

 From Rick Harman ('65) of VA - 01/05/18, 10:55 AM - " Sandy Hobbs ('65)":

Hi Carol

Just picked this off FB this morning. You remember Sandy Hobbs? Apparently she just passed away. No other information at this time.

Thank you for all you have done and are doing, Carol. God Bless you.

Rick

   Oh, NO! Thank you for letting me know, Rick. Sandy and I were at Magruder School together; we were even in the same Brownie troop, along with   Sandi Bateman and several other of our Alumni.

  From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of VA - 01/11/18, 1:57 AM:

Carol,

In case you haven’t found this obituary for Sandy Hobbs, thought you’d want this link.  I found it a couple days ago, based on where she was living when her sister, Linda, passed away.  I was very saddened to hear about her death.  I spent time with her in elementary school at her house, plus her mother worked at the Port Arthur Restaurant, at the time my dad was managing the Warwick Theatre.  He’d take us there to eat sometimes as they were next door to each other.  I’d lost track of her until my daughter started volunteering a few years ago with her brother, Billy, at the church they both attend.  Small world, isn’t it?!!

   Sandi, thank you so much for locating this; I had all but given up finding Sandy's obituary. My sincerest condolences are extended to her family.

Thine Be the Glory

Words by Edmond Louis Budry
(30 Aug 1854 - 12 Nov 1932)

Music by George Frideric Handel, 1747
(23 Feb 1685 - 14 Apr 1759)

Thine be the glory, risen, conq’ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry, Thou o’er death hast won;
Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded grave clothes where Thy body lay.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

Lo! Jesus meets us, risen from the tomb;
Lovingly He greets us, scatters fear and gloom;
Let the church with gladness, hymns of triumph sing;
For her Lord now liveth, death hath lost its sting.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life;
Life is naught without Thee; aid us in our strife;
Make us more than conq’rors, through Thy deathless love:
Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above.
Thine be the glory, risen conq’ring Son,
Endless is the vict’ry, Thou o’er death hast won.
