Hopelessly Devoted to You

Whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do it well;
whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself completely;
in great aims and in small I have always thoroughly been in earnest.”

- Charles Dickens
(07 Feb 1812 - 09 June 1870)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I love this song, and I love this quotation, and I love Charles Dickens.
WOW - I'm in a really loving mood, huh?!?

BONUS #1 - - Hopelessly Devoted to You - Olivia Newton-John

SUPER BONUS #2 - - Hopelessly Devoted to You - Kristin Chenoweth (Olive) singing in a 2007 clip from ABC's "Pushing Daisies"; I REALLY loved that show! It was like nothing else on tellybision - which meant, of course, that it simply had to be cancelled, and sure enough, it was. :o(

From My Cousin, Cheryl White Wilson (John Marshall HS - '64) - phone call of 01/07/10, 9:10 PM:

I came home from the hospital today where I'd been since Sunday. My asthmatic bronchitis advanced all the way to pneumonia, because I just kept pushing myself, thinking I could fight my way through it. That was my first trip in an ambulance. Because of the extreme cold, the attendants pulled the covers up over my face.  I protested, "But my neighbors will think I've died!"

They said, "They'll get over it."

YOWZERONI-RINI!  Take it easy and get well, Lady!

Happy Birthday today to    Mrs. Wilma Salmon Robinson (Warwick HS - '51) of VA AND Dreamadon Dillon Skidmore ('57) AND Sonja Settles Allen ('57) AND    Pat Branch Coltrane ('57)!

From Joe Madagan ('57) of FL - 01/07/10 - Second That Emotion":

Hi, Carol:
I would like to "Second That Emotion" that you
so well in response to the generous offer by     Bobby Turpin ('58) of VA with respect to shipping the 1955-56 NNHS State Championship Basketball Trophy to   Freddie McDowell ('56 - of ID).

Bobby while serving as a manager for the basketball teams always had a servant's heart,  and it certainly has not changed with the passing of a few years.

Thanks for sharing this with the TYPHOON Nation.

TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL

   AMEN! Thank you, Adonis!

  From Ed Nichols ('62) of Northern VA - 01/06/10 - "   Freddie McDowell ('56 - of ID)":

Hi Carol,

Freddie McDowell's address (has been forwarded to
Bobby Turpin ('58) of VA). ..... I believe he will be thrilled to receive the trophy. I hope this helps.

I was saddened to see the passing of
Tommy Scott ('61). It seems to me he was involved with the Drama Department at NNHS. He was a nice man.

Carol, you are the engine that holds the Typhoon Nation together. God bless you for all you do.

Ed "Eddie" Nichols

Thank you so very much, Eddie! I count it as an enormous privilege to be able to do whatever it is I do!

From Richard Cantor ('65) of KY - 01/07/10 - "RE:   Skip Wood's ('65 - of NC) Contact Info (which I had sent him from":

Thanks so much for getting this for me! You are truly an angel!

Skip was a great friend during my attendance at
Southwood College in Salemburg, NC.

I will let you know what happens,

Hope you feel better,

SUPER! Thanks, Richard! If that doesn't work, we have another plan.....

  From Cookie Phillips Tyndall ('64) of VA - 01/07/10 - "  Skip Wood ('65 - of NC)":

My cousin   Judy Phillips Allen (66) has Skip Wood’s info. She will probably give you the phone number or email.

   Thanks, Cookie!

From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of RI - 01/07/09 - "Thought I would check in...":

We got hammered on Dec. 19-20 with 19 inches of snow here in Little Rhody!  As you can see there are no photos of me out playing in the snow!  I love to look at it...from the warmth of the house!

     OOOH! How lovely!

GIGGLES! Ja, I'm afraid I'm with you now, Jean!

Here outside of St. Louis we've had snow for the past two days - nothing of that depth, of course! I ventured out this morning to collect the mail, and for about nine-and-a-half seconds toyed with the idea of playing in it for just a moment - at least making a snowball - but it was just tooooo cold! BRRRR!

We did take a snow day, though. You know what a snow day is, doncha? That's when school is cancelled (which it was, though admittedly it was not germane to the issue), and you pull on the quilts and sleeping bags and enjoy popcorn and hot chocolate while watching an old WWII movie on tellybision and the snow falling gently outside the window. We chose Gremlins (1984) instead. And we had hot buttered garlic noodles in place of the popcorn. But still. It was exactly the same, only completely different.

From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 01/05/10 - "This Made My Day" - "#2 in a Series of 12":

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it.

For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is
that wrinkles don't hurt....

   WILD GIGGLES!!! Thanks, Gorgeous!

From Jane Chambers of VA - 07/01/09 - "CNC BOOK BROCHURE & AD":

Thanks, Jane!

From ArcaMax Jokes - 01/07/09:

For over 40 years, my grandfather put in long hours at his job, so I was more than a little curious about the way he filled his days since his retirement. "How has life changed?"

A man of few words, he replied, "Well I get up in the morning with nothing to do, and I go to bed at night with it half done."

Hopelessly Devoted to You

Written by
John Farrar for Grease
(b. 08 Nov 1946)

Recorded by Olivia Newton-John, 1978
(b. 26 Sept 1948)

Guess mine is not the first heart broken,
My eyes are not the first to cry
I'm not the first to know,
There's just no gettin' over you

I'm just a fool who's willing
To sit around and wait for you
But baby can't you see,
There's nothin' else for me to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide,
Since you pushed my love aside
I'm not in my head,
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you,
Hopelessly devoted to you

My head is saying "fool, forget him",
My heart is saying "don't let go"
Hold on to the end,
That's what I intend to do
I'm hopelessly devoted to you

But now there's nowhere to hide,
Since you pushed my love aside
I'm not in my head,
Hopelessly devoted to you
