Dave Spriggs ('64 - of VA) cracked me up with his comment about vocalist Beverly Bivens of the musical group We Five and I am glad you posted his memory of "You Were On My Mind" from his days as a "Midshipman" at Annapolis.

That kind of masculine honesty is refreshing, but not surprising from a Naval Officer who stood many a Midnight Watch on the bridge of a destroyer.

Maxine's Perfect Solution to Senior Health Care

Here is the solution:

While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Let's take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon.

So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and three bullets. You are allowed to shoot one senator and two representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get three meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need! New teeth, great! Need glasses, no problem! New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well, bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this? The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax.

Hi, Carol:

While driving recently, and listening to the car radio my attention was drawn to an interview with Carly Simon.

She made an interesting comment about the song she wrote entitled "Anticipation" which she wrote while waiting to go out on a date with Cat Stevens. I have always liked this song, and enjoyed the catsup commercial that featured this tune, and it revealed a bit more of her interesting past.

As the interview progressed, I was able to pick up the earlier portion that I missed before tuning into this station. She was promoting her latest album entitled "Never Been Gone" which was promoted by one of her children.

Not one to pass up on an opportunity to write to you, and let the TYPHOON Nation know about some musical discovery, one of the songs on the album is very interesting. "Let the Riverrun" (Not mis-spelled) speaks of Israel with a line "Come the New Jerusalem" in the refrain. Not what I expected from Carly Simon, but you never know.

FISHING STORY

I finally got around to going fishing this morning but after a while I ran out of worms.

Then I saw a cottonmouth snake with a frog in his mouth, and frogs are good bass bait.

Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth, I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog and put it in my bait bucket.

Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit.

I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little whiskey in its mouth.

His eyes rolled back, he went limp, I released him into the lake without incident, and carried on my fishing with the frog.

A little later I felt a nudge on my foot.

There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth.

Driving along an outback road in Australia, I spied an exotic bird flying overhead. The creature was black, with a huge and striking red-and-gold beak. "Hey, look! A toucan!" I yelled.

Rest Home

Aunt Mary, a spinster of 92, had finally consented to go to a rest home, but strictly on a two-week-trial basis. Consequently, she took a small overnight case with only the bare essentials.

A couple of days later her niece was surprised to get a phone call from her demanding more clothes.

"Please bring me that good black silk, my lavender print, the brown wool..." and she went on and on. Finally after a brief questioning from her niece, Aunt Mary expostulated:

"There are MEN in this place!"

		Adia Melchert is here! She weighed 7 lbs. and 5 oz. and is cute. Looks like her mom Danielle is holding her. Can't wait for my turn. AWWW! Another sweet little baby to love! Thanks, Judy - congratulations to all!
